Come behind the scenes and experience what makes a good Chianti with a hands-on tour and tasting sessions at some of the region’s top wineries. Departing from the centre of Florence in a luxury vehicle with private driver, it’s not long before we’re skimming through the rolling hills, olive groves and vineyards of the Tuscan countryside.
Our first stop takes us to a ‘designer cellar’ created by one of the great masters of modern architecture, a perfect blend of tradition and innovation.
Next stop is a family run estate in the Chiantii Classico, we follow the humble grape’s journey from vineyard to vat, and barrel to bottle; enjoy a tasting session of locally produced olive oil and balsamic vinegar; and indulge in a tasty light lunch with a selection of Tuscan dishes accompanied by top Chianti Classico wines.
After taking some time to relax and enjoy the breathtaking view, we set off for the fortified hilltop town of San Gimignano and enter a storybook world of medieval towers, ancient feuds and richly preserved culture. There’s still one more tasting session to go, however, with a gelato from the tiny gelateria that won a world championship.
