We will start our tour at Florence’s origin, the ancient “Roman castrum” La Piazza della Repubblica. From here, we’ll walk to Palazzo Strozzi, a sumptuous example of Renaissance architecture, and further along the Via Tornabuoni in order to reach Ponte Santa Trinita. Located on the other side of the Arno River, the Oltrarno and the Santo Spirito districts are two of the most authentic parts of the city that are particularly famous for their abundance of artisan workshops.
Next, we will admire the Pitti Palace, home of the Medici family and later the King of Italy, before continuing our walk along the Vasarian Corridor. The ancient Ponte Vecchio will lead us up to the Uffizi courtyard. In the Piazza della Signoria, we will stop to admire Cellini’s Perseus, Gianbologna’s “The Rape of the Sabine", The Neptune Fountain, as well as the imposing Palazzo Vecchio.
Of course, also the Santa Croce church is not to be missed as Michelangelo, Galileo Galilei and other illustrious Italians are buried here. Our walk will continue towards the district of Dante before we will arrive in the heart of Florence, the Piazza del Duomo. Not only will you see the world’s largest painted surface that covers Brunelleschi’s Dome inside the Cathedral. Your guide will also explain the history of Giotto’s Bell Tower and the Baptistery’s magnificent Gates of Paradise.
