On this tour, historical and cultural heritage is palpable. Located in the astonishing Piazza della Signoria, Palazzo Vecchio is just one of the architectural wonders that we admire. Whether we turn to the Neptune Fountain or the Loggia dei Lanzi, with Benvenuto Cellini’s “Perseus” and Gianbologna’s “Rape of the Sabine”: Piazza della Signoria is, without doubt, one of the most fascinating and important squares in Florence.
Based on a project developed by Arnolfo di Cambio in 1299, Palazzo Vecchio was the political seat of the Florentine Republic before Giorgio Vasari transformed it into a magnificent palace for the
Medici's grand-ducal family. The
interiors are elegant, with the splendid gold ceiling of the “
Salone del Cinquecento” and the monumental quarters embellished with statues of
Donatello and Michelangelo and frescoes by Salviati and Ghirlandaio. We discover the rooms dedicated to Pope Leo X of the Medici family, the famous Sala degli Elementi, and the Eleonora di Toledo apartment.
The private study of Francesco I de Medici is the treasure chest of a refined collector. Learning about the Medici family and their influence over Florence, we marvel at paintings and small bronze statues that celebrate the affinity between art and nature. The tour ends with another highlight as your enthusiastic, certified guide takes you to the top of the Arnolfo Tower. At 95 meters above the ground, we get to enjoy one of the most panoramic and spectacular views over Florence!
